About the President’s Medal of Honor Recipients

Hon. Roger J. His name twice appeared on presidential short-lists for possible nomination to the United States Supreme Court. In 1976, at the age of 41, Judge Miner became one of the youngest justices of the New York State Supreme Court; he served there until 1981, when President Ronald Reagan appointed him to the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York. In 1985, President Reagan appointed Judge Miner to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, where he served for nearly three decades. Judge Miner graduated cum laude from New York Law School in 1956 and served as the first Managing Editor of the Law Review. He was admitted to practice in New York and in the United States Court of Military Appeals. He served on active military duty from 1956 to 1959, and later with the Army Reserve, obtaining the rank of captain in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. Judge Miner was awarded the Commendation Ribbon with Medal Pendant for his work on the revision of the Manual for Courts-Martial. He was admitted to the Bar of the Republic of Korea in 1958, a rare honor for an American. Judge Miner received an honorary LL.D. from New York Law School in 1989; he subsequently received honorary LL.D. degrees from both Albany Law School and Syracuse University.

A former contributing editor and correspondent for TIME magazine, Dean Simon is the author of seven major works on the modern Supreme Court and its justices, including What Kind of Nation: Thomas Jefferson, John Marshall, and the Epic Struggle to Create a United States. His books have won the American Bar Association’s Silver Gavel Award and twice been named New York Times Notable Books. His most recent book, FDR and Chief Justice Hughes: The President, the Supreme Court, and the Epic Battle Over the New Deal, has been praised by historian Jean Edward Smith as a “marvelously written, meticulously researched study.” Dean Simon, a graduate of Yale College and the Yale Law School, served as a Ford Foundation Fellow in India, a Harvard Fellow in Law and the Humanities, and as Visiting Lecturer in American Studies at Yale University. He joined the faculty of New York Law School in 1975, and has taught courses in Constitutional Law, Legal Journalism, and the Modern Supreme Court.

Denver, CO. (PRWEB) May 14, 2012

June 8 marks the start of EURO 2012 and soccer fans at Fadó Irish Pub & Restaurant in Denver will create an unrivaled atmosphere benefitting one of the biggest tournaments in the world. EURO (UEFA European Football Championship) takes place every four years and since 1960 has remained one of the most prestigious soccer tournaments in the world, second only to the World Cup. For the first time since 1988, Republic of Ireland has secured a spot in the famed soccer tournament. And Fadó Denver is poised to celebrate big from June 8 until the Final on July 1. Since 1998, Fadó has become the top soccer bar for ex-pats, Internationals and American fans alike to gather and watch the beautiful game.

Here’s what real fans need to know:

· Fadó will show all EURO 2012 programming. All 32 matches live, on multiple HDTVs, with sound on. Replays available daily.

· Because there are only 16 teams (as opposed to the 64 teams in the World Cup), jersey clad customers will be hanging from the proverbial rafters early on in the tournament as top teams are pitted against each other from the early rounds. The games will kick off early but the party always lasts well into the evening.

· Throughout the tournament, Fadó will treat fans to a special Tournament menu for breakfast and lunch that includes a pint of Guinness, Stella Artois or Newcastle or RedBull.

· Fans can play along in our EURO 2012 online Fantasy game for free and compete for pub cash & great EURO 2012 gear. Fans can also start their own private competition with friends!

· Fadó will once again sell special EURO 2012 tees; including Ireland, Spain, England, Germany and Holland. Wear your colors. Support your team properly.

· No other soccer bar spends more on broadcast fees or opens earlier to show International soccer than Fadó. Fans crowd into the pub over 100 days every year, to watch exclusive International soccer feeds from numerous countries (Ireland, England, Spain, Italy, Scotland, South America, Germany).

· Fadó serves more European draught beer and Guinness than any other bar, restaurant or pub in LoDo. A real fan watching the beautiful game needs the Perfect Pint.

· Fadó Irish Pub & Restaurant in Denver is an Official Soccer Bar of US Soccer. Fadó Seattle was voted ‘Best Soccer Bar in the U.S.’ by fans at USSoccer.com and named “1 of 6 Best Soccercentric Bars in America” by GQ Magazine.

Media Opportunities:

In May, Fadó will be crowded with enthusiastic soccer fans supporting their teams and watching the title race in the English Premier League, the FA Cup Final and the most prestigious inter-league soccer match of the year, the Champions League Final (the global Super Bowl of Soccer) on May 19.

Students will be competing for the opportunity to win scholarships as well as coveted internships with Silicon Valley Green and Biotechnology Firms. Three of those internships will be with Silicon Valley based graduate university, ITU.

“I have been a guest speaker at ITU on prior occasions,” said Angele Jean Thomas, Founder of Infuse Entrepreneurship Foundation. “By offering internships to our high school students, students can witness firsthand, through ITU’s global business model, how they can create their very own companies.”

As a part of their commitment to innovative educational solutions, ITU supports entrepreneurial students in bringing their ideas and technologies to market. An in-house patent and ownership policy and process framework and leading industrial expertise helps students develop their research, patent their innovations, and build a successful business model.

About ITU

With seven strong departments providing high quality academic and practical training, ITU offers distinctive graduate level certificates, Master’s, and doctorate level programs in electrical engineering, computer/software engineering, engineering management, international business, interdisciplinary sciences, and digital arts. ITU degree programs aim to educate competent engineers, managers and administrators with a deep understanding of professional ethics, intellectual property law, environmental protection and other contemporary issues.

ITU has been granted candidacy status by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and is also recognized by the Bureau of Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE),. WASC Candidacy status places ITU among the recognized list of institutions on the U.S. Department of Education’s database of recognized institutions of higher learning and the Council for Higher Education’s Listing of Accredited and Candidate Institutions (CHEA).

(PRWEB) May 01, 2012

Don Johnston Incorporated today released Start-to-Finish Online Accessible Library. Company founder Don Johnston said, “Thanks to the power of cloud computing, struggling readers can now use their iPads, mobile devices, and laptop computers to read some of the most important and powerful books ever written. Just one license allows classrooms in an entire school to read books from school or home without buying copies for everyone.”

Before going to the cloud, Start-to-Finish built a strong fan base over a decade with computer, audiobook and paperback book sets. The product concept was a personal mission for Don Johnston who didn’t read a chapter book until the age of 15. “When we designed our first product line, we focused on helping students overcome every possible roadblock.” He said, “We did this at production costs so high that they may never be replicated.” Start-to-Finish authors are passionate about helping kids read. So books are written at a 2nd to 5th grade level and edited by specially trained SLPs. Characters and plots come to life with the help of professional narration. Built-in assistive technology helps students with disabilities. Data collection allows teachers to track the amount of time students spend reading and end-of-chapter quizzes show comprehension results.

Don Johnston has many letters from Start-to-Finish readers. During a recent visit with Don, a ninth grader named Ireland explained, “Start-to-Finish books don’t feel like other books. I can actually read them. I get lost in the stories.” She added, “These are the books that got me reading.”

Start-to-Finish Online Accessible Library includes a complete library of books tied to the common core curriculum standards. Titles include retold classics like Treasure Island and Macbeth, original mysteries, sports biographies, and non-fiction titles like For Liberty: The Story of the American Revolution, The Story of Anne Frank and Ancient Egypt.

“The accessibility magic is in the technology,” says Don. It supports professional narration that models intonation and fluency. Readers get support with alternative keyboards and switch scanning, allowing access with one or two switches.

K-12 school districts can purchase school-wide licenses that include all available titles for $ 429 per year per school. The Unlimited Site License includes unlimited school use for all students and also includes take-home rights.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) April 26, 2012

Cloudpath Networks, the enablers of WPA2-Enterprise in bring-your-own-device (BYOD) environments, has released version 4.0 of XpressConnect. XpressConnect, the de facto standard for supporting WPA2-Enterprise and 802.1X in education and enterprise BYOD environments, provides automated, self-service configuration for a wide array of user-owned devices including laptops, phones and tablets. With version 4.0, Cloudpath has now added support for Windows 8 and Mac OS X Mountain Lion; its twenty-fifth and twenty-sixth supported operating system versions.

“With BYOD, enterprise networks are now experiencing some of the same support challenges as traditional education networks. Diverse devices walk in the door at random times, beginning as soon as the newest version is released. XpressConnect brings sanity by ensuring that users are able to quickly and easily access the WPA2-Enterprise network without IT involvement,” according to Kevin Koster, founder of Cloudpath Networks.

With the release of Windows 8 and Mac OS X Mountain Lion support, Cloudpath continues to build on its solid track record of quickly adding support for new operating systems. Koster recalls, “Early customers used XpressConnect with support only for XP SP2, but today; those same customers enjoy the benefit of XpressConnect supporting 26 versions of operating systems.”

Consistent with other platforms, XpressConnect supports TLS, PEAP, and TTLS on Windows 8 and Mac OS X Mountain Lion. XpressConnect capabilities include configuration of a wide array of authentication, network, and application-related settings; configuration of all types of SSIDs, installation of certificates and root CAs, and configuration of web proxies. For Microsoft CA environments, XpressConnect is capable of interacting with the certificate authority to deploy client certificates to non-domain devices.

XpressConnect has been used worldwide to deploy WPA2-Enterprise and wired 802.1X into some of the most challenging network environments. From student devices in education to BYOD in enterprise, XpressConnect embodies the knowledge necessary to make a secure wireless network simply work.

The Levana BABYVIEW20 earned an 8.5 on 10rate’s Top 10 Baby Monitors list.

Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) April 24, 2012

10Rate reviewers and staff selected 10 of the best baby monitors for 2012, assigning each a numerical rating as well as awarding three models that stood out for quality, value, and budget. Testing and consideration for this Baby Monitors Top 10 list were given based on the following set of nine criteria:

1. Wide range

2. Secure, interference-free channels

3. Clear reception

4. Low battery/out of range indicators

5. Ample battery life

6. Minimal static

7. Two-way audio communication

8. Adjustable volume and sensitivity

9. Bonuses like nightlight, camera, or lullabies

The annual Best Baby Monitor 2012 awards list was headed by the Motorola MBP33, winning the Best Quality spot and a near flawless 9.5 out of 10 rating. The review noted several strengths of the digital video baby monitor as follows: “The model offers three screen sizes; the medium one, at 2.8 inches, runs at $ 169.90, and is large and clear enough to give you a good view of your infant. The monitor offers a crisp picture resolution, even in the dark with infrared night vision. Other perks include digital camera functionality, room temperature monitoring, adjustable volume, and 5 built-in lullabies. For a wireless monitor, we were impressed with how well it worked, with no interference from other wireless devices in the home.”

10rate’s editors also gave the Best Value Baby Monitor award to the Angelcare AC2012P. With a rating of 9 out of 10, the review boasted, “The pad rests under the baby and sounds an alarm if it detects no movement for more than 20 seconds. Additionally, the sound monitor offers a clear connection and has a great range. You’ll appreciate being able to ‘see’ the baby’s noise level even if you can’t hear it over a vacuum cleaner or dishwasher. It’s handy having two parents’ units, also, so both mom and dad can rest assured that their child is safe. For all that the set offers, the $ 95.29 price tag seems very reasonable.”

Additionally, the Best Budget award from the Top 10 Best Baby Monitors list went to the Safety 1st 8026 Crystal Clear Monitor, for which 10rate noted, “For a no-frills baby monitor, this Safety 1st model provides remarkably clear audio from your infant’s room. With a belt clip, you can easily carry around the unit as you go about your business; it allows for a range of up to 400 feet. The battery life is ample, too. An indicator light lets you know when the juice is running low so you can charge it with the included AC adapter. While there’s a faint static sound, it’s not enough to hamper its basic functionality. It may not be the fanciest model available, but it more than serves its purpose and costs only $ 26.16.”

Angelcare was the only brand featured for multiple models in 10rate’s Baby Monitor Reviews. While only featured for one model, the Philips Avent SCD510 review had this to say of earning second place in overall rating: “A sleek baby monitor from Philips, this Avent device lets you hear the slightest cooing and breathing from your infant. If you prefer, you can turn down the volume and still detect noises from the nursery thanks to the LED light indicator. With DECT technology, the sound is crystal clear and highly sensitive; with over 100 channels, you won’t have to worry about interference from cell phones or other wireless devices, and your baby monitor’s channel will be private and secure.”

10rate.com conducts reviews in various product and services categories and publishes “Expert Top 10 Lists for Everything in your life.” The company’s web site strives to “Make it Easy” to select from the hundreds of choices there are in the product and service market place. All products and services are thoroughly researched by the company’s expert editors prior to receiving a rating on a 1-10 scale. In addition to product reviews the company’s editors write guidelines, buying guides and articles on various topics surrounding each product or service category covered to help educate the consumer.

Weston, Florida (PRWEB) April 19, 2012

Cheerleading has come a long way from the days of saddle shoes and pom-poms. Today’s cheerleaders are athletes in every sense of the word. At The Sagemont School, members of its competitive cheerleading team are respected student-athletes and role models on campus.

Cheerleading is a recognized sport by the Florida High School Athletic Association. In addition to cheering at football or basketball games, cheerleading teams also compete. At the 2012 Florida Cheer and Dance Competition, the Sagemont team received first place in its division and second place all-around. The girls also participated in last fall’s Universal Cheerleaders Association Competition in Orlando.

“These girls are true athletes, as they must learn flexibility, gymnastics, dancing and timing, stunting and cheering as a unit,” explains Christy Safont, head cheerleading coach at Sagemont. “It is a physically challenging sport as the girls push their physical abilities when they throw girls in the air, tumble and perform a non-stop two minute and 30 second routine which has over 50 counts of material.”

High school student, Briana Padron likes the exhilaration of competing. “My favorite part of competitive cheerleading is actually being on the floor and competing because we work so hard for a crazy two minute routine that only has one chance to hit, so in that moment when it all comes together it’s nerve racking and exciting.”

Teammate Jessica Velez, a senior, also enjoys the excitement of performing on stage. “It’s so much fun to me, and all the energy from the fans and other teams help pump me up.”

“What I enjoy most is getting out on the floor to show people our dedication to cheerleading and to show how hard we work,” adds middle school student grader Elizabeth Hurwitz.

Of course, the girls also enjoy cheering for the Sagemont Lions basketball team which made it all the way to the State Championship Tournament in Lakeland this year. They came in second in the state for their division.

Just like the boys basketball team, the cheerleaders put in hours upon hours of practice. According to Coach Safont, the team practices four times a week after school and once a month they practice on Saturday for two hours at a local cheerleading training facility with a competitive floor and experienced instructors. “These girls pack so much into a short time that it is amazing how much better we get every year,” shares the coach. “The level of difficulty increases every year and that is a testament to the type of girls we have.”

The cheerleaders are true role models on campus. They all maintain above average GPAs, are leaders in various clubs and honor societies, and are active in school functions and activities. “Academics is always the girls’ first priority,” explains Coach Safont. “With a coaching staff comprised of Sagemont math and science teachers, we make sure to incorporate study and homework time between practice and games and on trips.”

The girls also learn a lot from cheerleading. Because it is a team sport, they learn how to deal with many different personalities. According to Coach Safont, they also learn to be patient, adjust and to ‘go with the flow,’ and function as a unit rather than an individual.

That’s a lesson Jessica Velez will take with her when she goes to college next year. “From cheerleading I learned what it means to be a good role model and what it takes to be a good teammate. You have to be respectful and reasonable towards everyone. It also taught me to cooperate better with people.”

“I have learned discipline, as well as how challenging it can be to work with so many different personalities,” adds Briana Padron, noting that in the end they all learned to cooperate and work together as a family.

And that’s the lesson Coach Safont, Coach Henne and Coach Bononi want all the girls to take away from this experience. “There is definitely a bond within the team. We are a huge family and try to look out for each other.”
